HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A man fled from police Friday morning after punching and biting a cop in the parking lot of Bealls.

The 57-year-old male suspect said a vehicle was blocking his path in the parking around 11 a.m. on Nov. 7. The encounter caused him to become irate, and he left his vehicle and threw his beverage can at the other car, according to an arrest report from Hopkinsville Police Department.

This incident was witnessed by a nearby HPD officer, who intervened. Unprovoked, the suspect began assaulting the male officer and punched him in the face, which was witnessed by others. The officer was able to wrestle him to the ground where the suspect bit him on the arm, breaking the skin.

Identified as Joel McCaskill of Clarksville, the suspect fled the scene and was located nearly ten miles away at a gas station on Fort Campbell Boulevard by Oak Grove and Hopkinsville Police. The arrest report also notes that the suspect failed to pick up the can he threw.

He is being charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, menacing, criminal littering, and assault of a police officer.
